Rear main seal replacement tool needed?
Hi guys,
I am currently changing my clutch and have had an intake leak for a long time. There was quite a bit of oil everywhere, so I have decided to change the intake gasket while I get my flywheel turned.
Anyway, I am wondering if the rear main may also be leaking. THere seems to be some oil around the seal. How hard is this seal to replace? Can you just pry it out and pound another in, or do you need a special tool. If it is not too hard I want to go ahead and change it.
thanks
Tim

Its not hard to change, when you do it make sure the inside lip doesn't come out, if it does take it off & try puttting it on again, the tool sucks & doesn't work very well IMO, to make sure its all the way in just make sure the seal is leveled with the surouding seal boss.

The seal is not hard to replace. You can pry the old seal out with a flat blade screwdriver. I bought a short piece of PVC tubing the same diameter as the new seal , placed a metal plate of the back of the tube and tapped the new seal in square.
