Rear seal, oil pan gasket, flywheel changed! Now starter SCREECHING on start!
I had the rear main seal leaking on me. I had a shop change out the rear main seal, the oil pan gasket, and had a messed up flexplate from a previous incident with the stock converter going bad when I bought the car.
Now, when the car is started the thing makes a loud screeching high pitch noise, kind of similar to a bad fanbelt. They said that it probably is making it because the new flexplate (autozone) has more square end (not worn out like the old flywheel) and they just need to get adjusted or will break in. He said if in 2 weeks it is still making the noise that they are going to mess around with the shims on the starter.
Any idea's or suggestions? I would be very appreciative of help, I don't know much about the flexplate and would like to know before waiting it out 2 weeks to only not get better or damage anything?

I have heard that line before, when someone doesn't want to be liable for their work. I have never heard of a flexplate needed to be broken in. I would take it back to them and talk to the boss.
Good luck

Just checked the box: Pioneer Fra-160
It is 153 teeth gm replacement for stock one 14088765 on the partsamerica site.
Should I go ahead and wait a week or two then or just have them shim it right now? I will be able to bear the noise right now for a couple weeks if it so persists.
Am I doing any damage right now or shall I take it right back to them. They take 100% liability for their work, I don't have to worry about that.

I would bet that they installed the flexplate backwards. In that position the teeth will constantly grind against the starter. Guess they didn't notice the big ENGINE SIDE stamped on it, or maybe your aftermarket flexplate has no such stamping so they took a guess.

there is no reason that a flexplate should have to be broken in. They either have to shim the starter correctly or change the flexplate. all your doing is beatin the crap out of your starter. I had to add a 60 thousand shim to mine on a flywheel change to get the starter to mesh correctly

It is already back in the shop....they are going to shim it. They have to do that and see why my passenger side is ticking. They had taken out the head prior to this only on the passenger side to repair a stripped spark plug threads that I stripped . So maybe one of the rocker got adjusted wrong....I dunno. I will find out.
Oh and low oil light is coming on every once in a while when I start the car, once i turn it off and start it again it turns off. They were cleaning out the sensor when I left.
