remote start.. not activated???

i have remote start but the person i bought the car from said it needed to be activated or something. I was told the little red button under the steering column was a valet switch for an alarm or a remote start. i dont have an alarm so im guessing its for remote start. Now when i try to remote start my car it doesnt do anything. I pushed the red button and it still doesnt work. any ideas?

Alrite, I'm getting ready to install my Viper550 remote start in about a week or two, and I just finished reading up on it. I think I can answer this problem sabre. There should be a flip-switch somewhere inside the car which will stop the remote starter from being activated. The reason this type of switch is installed is because when you take the car in for service, safety check, valet, etc., you don't want others using your car to accidently remotely start your car. In my manual it says that you should turn off the remote starter function before you disconnect the car battery as well. Hope this helped!
