Remove ZO6 MAF screen

Remove ZO6 MAF screen
Hey guys I just purchased the ZO6 Maf from Sam Taylor the non programmed one and will have PCMFORLESS program it to work with my LT1. I will be also purchasing the pigtail from ramchargers.com. My question is this, there is one screen on the MAF and would it hurt to remove it. My stock LT1 doesn't have the screens. thanks

there is no reason to remove the screen, it will no increase the airflow.
the screen helps make sure there is uniform airflow over the maf for proper readings, and stops any debris incase something got by the filter.

well mine came with it, the screen is on the entrance side of the MAF there is no screen on the side that attaches to the throttle body. So it wouldn't make any difference with or with out it??

The 2002+ ZO6s don't have screens. I bought mine from Dal. I asked if there was a different part number for the later model ones - I am pretty sure they only have one part number now (no screen).
To answer the question - go for it .

engine can intake X amount of air
maf screen can flow more greater than X needed by the engine.
the screen is not a restriction unless you have a very highly modded engine.
explain where the performance gains come from, since you are not increasing the amount of air?

My turn...
Why do aftermarket MAF sensors come without a screen?
Why did GM remove the screen the newer LS6s (that make more HP).
You can say it doesn't help all you want. I can say it does help until I'm blue in the face. Until you or I do a dyno/track test back to back with each MAF, its silly to get into a pissing contest. I'm using logic (posted above) to base my claim that, however small, it helps.
