removed the intake manifold...
...to replace the gasket. no problems as far as thats concerned. just wondering if while i have the manifold off, how should i clean it up. just wipe it all down or use some cleaner? also with the throttle body should i clean it up with throttle body cleaner? thanks.

I would recommend using a razor blade to remove any of the old gasket material. Then I would use any brake cleaner to remove any oil from the surface. I would recommend using SEAfoam to clean out your throttle body. Do not use brake cleaner to clean your TB out. You run the chance of removing the coating from the throttle blades.

Is it normal for the lifter valley to smell horrible when you first take the intake manifold off?
I have 115K miles on the car, so I guess the burnt oil smell is to be expected, but when I took the manifold off I had to stand back! Pew!

Change your rear end fluid. It will make you feel better about the smell of the engine.
