I would have posted this in the appearance section, but getting a response from that forum can sometimes take quite a while, so moderators, please don't redirect me, in case someone can help.....

Does anyone have tips or methods of removing old/baked on purple window tint.

i may stand corrected, but WD40 works well on removal of stickers and such.

Take a hairdryer and heat the tint and it will pull out easier. Then get some sort of solvent to rub out the reamaining glue on the glass.

peel a corner with a razor.... yank the tint off, SLOWLY it should come off all once piece... Make a solution of a lil vinegar with some dawn.. use a spray bottle... that outta eat the glue.. clean windown with razor...... this only works for side windows... I dont know how to clean/remove tint off the back window....

Well the tint won't really just peel off, I tried, but I guess I could combine techniques, and heat it up with a hair dryer(it's the back window, so it will take a while), then peel as much as I can using a razor when needed, then mix plain vinegar with dawn (dish soap?) and go at it.
Any other suggestions for the solvent??

some cracoal lighter, but the immmeditaly wipe it off with a water rag.

I heard a tip from a pro once to peel a cornor back and then take a bike pump (or sportball pump) with one of the needles (for filling footballs and whatnot) and getting soap on it so you can side it under the tint an slowly pump air under it it create a bubble. I would imagin this is hard to do, but that is what I heard from a shop....

Soaking it with any window cleaner that has ammonia in it should eventually loosen it up. (that's why they say not to use cleaner with ammonia in it to clean your tinted windows)

get somebody else to do it, i've had a couple of friends try and they always f*** it up, unless you are planning to retint it by yourself, just pay somebody to do it, it will look a lot nicer

i was told to use 1 part dawn 1 part amonia and 1 part windex it worked pretty good but it was a pita so im goignt o pay someone the $75

Shoebox, I thought they advise against using ammonia because it changes the tint color (...and regrettably from my experience, because it turns the tint a purple color )

Thanks. but the whole point of my new project car is to see what I can do myself, and only leave the stuff I absolutely can't. I've already gotten the side windows off, but that rear is tough. I've gotten lot's of great advice. Thanks guys!
