I am replacing the stock elbow on my Z, but wanted to know what a good one was to get.. and it I need to change anything else with it? I was looking at a Summit Mag. and noticed they have a Vortechaluminum elbow. is that any good?

If looks are more important than performance get the Vortech. If performance is more important than looks get the 1LE.

What is the difference between the 1le and the Stock one?

THe 1LE doesn't have the long schlonger thing that dips down into the fan area. You need the 1LE is you plan on installing an electric water pump or if you want something which is easier to pull in and out of your engine bay. Do a search for Jason Cromer and I'm sure he has a good price on one of those. I ordered mine from thunderracing.com

I don't see how the 1LE could flow better than the Vortech unit. The Vortech doen't have the "long schlonger" thing either. It is also has a smooth mandrel bend in the elbow. I don't see how the rubber molded 1LE can flow better. That elbow from Vortech is the same one that is provided in the supercharger kits.

right, the vortech elbow is SMOOOOOOOTH and looks good.

the stock and even 1LE have ridges or that accordian looking surface.

The Alumnium one holds engine heat on it and heats up incomming air more than the 1LE. Later>>>>>>

If you just want a good replacement for cheap, just buy another used one. The new ones I have seen are kinda pricey compared to the $20-$30 I see them going for used. Mine was ripped to I picked one up offa' here pretty cheap. But if I had the money to spend it would be the Vortech although I'm not sure how much the heat-soak would come into play.

As Dave said, do a search if you think the Vortech is better "performance wise" it was discussed before and the result was the 1LE (or stock) is more likely the better choice......unless of course you are running a Vortech or other supercharger

hey it's pretty damn hot here, but i've stopped the car in the light of day, lifted the hood, and put my hand on the Vortech intake...not that hot. Now try that with the aluminum intake manifold.

can a ScanMaster show Intake Air Temp? That would be one way to know for sure. run both the stock, 1LE, and vortech intakes in the daytime, record outside air temp, coolant temp, and intake air temp.

Heat soak my ***...

When the air is rushing through that area with the velocity that it does, the whole argument becomes moot.

If you look carefully at each elbow, you'll see that the vortech should outflow the 1LE.

Personally, I would not want a material like what the 1LE is made out of, potentially collapsing under a high volume of air. Not to mention...internally the bellows is hardly ideal.

where do you find the vortech intake elbow at and for how much is the cheapest and is it worth dioing it or not? is it a huge performance gain or is it minimal but bang for buck ya kno? im getting me a cold air intake soon, looking into the K&N FIPK or the lpe legenfelter one thats only 160 thast cheaper than the K&N and i think looks better and it comes with a K&N filter 2!
