damn, I finally actually priced out the conversion using new parts at wholesale prices... with the following parts 1104032 (vented opti), 12130319 (vented-opti harness), 12552426 (timing cover), 12555323 (vaccum hose), 14082470 (vacuum hose) it comes to a grand total of $513 plus shipping (prolly minimum of $50 on gmpartdirect) so... ~$563 not even including any gaskets plus the initial $90 of the cloyes double roller and the $160 for the elec. water pump comes to a grand total of $813+ for the full conversion. thats seriously a unbeleivable price to upgrade a timing set, I'd be better off just buying a 95 z28 with how much these cars have depreciated in value. Now i'm interested in how much most of you all are paying for this conversion??

Actually you don't have to change the cam, just the dowel pin. It needs to be longer for the '95 opti. I tried to get the cam dowel pin out of the cam without removing the cam and was unsuccessful, so I decided just to get another cam since the motor was apart, again. If you have a new cam, grind or cut it down to around .600"-.620"

Yes I know this stuff ain't cheap, but you have an improved opti, and a much better chain than stock. Don't forget the cover should be checked for clearance to the timing chain.

I did all that plus the delteq ignition. Been running it lately around the block just N/A for now, it is narly, rev's until no tomorrow and sounds like a nascar motor. Love that cam for sure.

i really don't think the length of the opti dowel pin is that important. All you need is for it to be long enough for it to fit into the hole on the opti so it can engage it. The pin doesn't even have to be that close of a measurement.

did you buy all used stuff? how much did the conversion end up costing you?

Everything was purchased new.

I got the opti off ebay for around $220

The cam off this board for $200.

Lifters $250 from summit.

Springs $170 off ebay.

58 mm Holley t-body from summit, $375

Electric water pump from summit, $160

Delteq $500 (bare bones plus coils purchased from ebay)

Timing cover new gm parts direct: $75

Timing chain, SDPC: $100

Head gaskets: $70
Intake gaskets: $20
Exhaust gaskets: $20

Total parts: $1,940

Labor: 3 angle valve job & surface heads: $220
20 hrs more port work on heads & intake: yours truly
Weld 1 intake port $25 (grinded too much on one of them)
Engine assembly: yours truly
Machine clearance work on timing cover: My bro (free)

Like I said before, not exactly cheap. Nothing is these days.

Only about half of the stuff you listed is needed for an opti conversion.
