Thumbs up results from header install...... come on in....

Well guys, the results are in kinda....

We started about 7:00pm (4-18-03) and had the manifolds off and the headers on by the time we stopped which was at 10:00pm. The headers we installed were the Hooker shorties
1-5/8 and we also had the NGK tr-55's we were going to put in.
We continued the following day at 11:00 and didn't end up getting done till about 5:00 or so. One hour of that was driving around looking for a CAT. to bolt up the the 4-bolt pattern coming
from the y-pipe. In which, no-one had one so I had to get one ordered Monday (today). With the headers on, it sounds kinda like I am running open headers kuz we have the old 3-bolt flange bolted up to it and there is a BIG gap between the flanges now.
But as far as performance, it feels like it really wants to scoot and hall some butt. I haven't really gotten on it yet....... kinda wanna wait till the CAT is on so it wont be so noisy.... but it feels very strong! and what sucks, is that aweful smell coming from the headers with that paint that they have on them...

I also have some spark plug wires resting on the headers till we can get them tie-wrapped up. they are the lgmotorsports g2 ones that i thought were able to handle the headers but the tech said he doesnt recommend doing that. so i still have to get everything set and i will let ya know tomorrow maybe when the CAT comes in... We will be installing the AIR/FUEL ratio illuminated gauge hopefully this week so it will look purty..

BUT THATS ALL I HAVE AS OF NOW!!!!!!!!!!

How did you get your manifolds off so quick? I'm having problems with mine especially the passenger side but any tips you could give me like which bolts are better to get from underneath, etc would be greatly appreciated

One question though? Why did you opt for the Hooker Shorties? There's better flowing/performing headers out there for not much more, I.E. Macs or the like.

I chose the Hookers because

a)They're emissions legal
b)Jet Hot Coating
c)Group Purchase
d)Financing thru Jet Hot

All of those decided why I chose Hookers. Mainly the price and 3 month payments fit my schedule at the time.

yes, the smell is very nasty.
as far as tips goes, we spent alot of time under the car, a few of the bolts were a booger, most definately. along with a few of the spark plugs as well. We had the manifolds off in no-time actually, remember... there are some bolts on the manifolds that seem like they are hidden. I bought these shorties because they seemed like the best buy at the time. i have had them for over a year and just now got around to installing them. i really dont see how other headers could be better flowing than these. they seem pretty well to me. as far as pics goes... i dont have any right now, i might later, im not sure yet though...

Get you some JB solvent and soak over night. This will help, trust me. Disconnect the y-pipe via the triagular flange on each side. This will give you more room to work/manuever.

you can use a blowtorch to burn the paint off before you install them and you won't have that problem..

i cheat, i have an 80,000 BTU proprane torpedo that i set my headers in front of the burn off the paint, i also repaint them with BBQ paint and burn it again, do this a few times for a good paint coat.

this is how i did my S10 headers anyway, i'm afraid i might spring for coating on my z headers.
