Rev Limiter coming in early

I have a 1994 Z28 with 70,000 miles. I just changed the opti and all is running great. I couple of days ago I was in second gear and I was WOT going up to 6,000revs. As I was approaching 6rpms I felt a little a hesitation. My question is what is the rev limiter set at. And when I felt that hesitation it felt kinda like the old opti when it needed to be replaced, but not as bad. Anyone know, also I know the rev limiter was not being hit.

I was hitting about 5,800revs when I felt it.

Have you changed your plug wires lately?
plugs?
This sounds like an ignition related prob. check all the plugs for proper gap and make sure all of your wires are ok.

Maybe

It could be the coil, however I dont think that is the culprit. You never said if the wires are new. What kind of wires are you running? I just noticed headers in your sig, my friend, check #4 and #6 wires. Mine likes to eat those just enough to arc over and cause a high rpm miss.

Stcok settings for an M6 are 5,886 rpm in 1st gear, and 5,805 rpm in 2nd thru 6th. But the rev limiter will feel like more than a little hesitation.... it shuts the fuel off with a "bang". Also, the stock tach can be screwy at the top end... mine was going to 6K with the stock rev limiter, but a scanner showed the true rpm wasn't over the 5,805 rpm limit.

I changed the opti last week and changed the plugs and wires a month ago. Acdelco platinum plugs with 8.5 MSD wires. I do not have the lumes on the wires(wire seperators). But I think the wires are insulated enough that they would not arc.

My guess is the coil wire/coil post. Check it for corrosion if the wire isn't new.
