Reverse flow cooling question. LT1

On an LT1 the lower drivers side waterpump outlet that has a hose that runs to the bottom of the radiator. Can this be plugged or does this hose have something to do with the reverse flow cooling. My glimer vaccum pump belt will be hitting this nipple and I would like to pull the nipple out and plug the hole. Has anyone done this before? What is the purpose of that hose? I honestly have no idea.

Thanks

Tony

That connection is for cars equipped with an oil cooler.

That's a vette waterpump. It doesn't have the connection on the driverside like the fbody pump.

No.......I dont see it in that pic. It is at like 3:00. Looks like it is just a provision for the cooler. Some had coolers and some did not. I am going to plug it!!

Thanks guys!

No problem. I just picked up a new waterpump for my 96TA this evening. After looking at it, blocking off that port won't cause any problem that I can see.

Let us know how that goes. I wondered the same exact thing myself, but left it in there.

I've run it blocked for 9 years and never had an issue. Just capped it and the corresponding radiator connection.

Thanks, that would be one less hose in my way... Next time it's apart, that's coming out.

I've always plugged it on my LT1 swaps i've done, however, I did find it usefull for filling a dry engine with coolant.

What about the other two heater hose connections on the other side of the waterpump? Has anyone ever plugged those? I have them looped together but would like to plug them as well.

I welded mine shut:

You can save yourself a little bit of hassle in that area if you buy a 92 Corvette model water pump. They came from the factory originally equipped with only the one upper heater hose barb.

Very nice! Did you polish that? Thanks for the info. I will plug them as well. I do have an extra Corvette water pump in storage. I wish I would have used that one but I already have this one powdercoated.
