Revving question

I just got a camaro like 2 days ago and today i was revving the engine a little like up to 4,000 rpm nothing higher, and its only got 7, 506 miles on the LT1 engine, and my parents say "Stop! Your gunna blow the engine or sumthin"

They are not right, right? Cause im not even revving that high or red lining it.

So what do you think?

was the engine warmed up? dont rev if the engine is cold. Itll prematurely wear the engine. If warm then 4000 is not a big deal.

you dont have a thing to worry about.. if its properly maintained, the average LT1 will constantly be able to redline well past 100k

Revving an engine in Nuetral or park is bad for it. I can try to explain best as I can. There is a split second delay between oil pressure and RPM. If you rev an engine up too fast, the oil pressure doesn't reach a high enough pressure fast enough, and things can grenade on the bottom ( Or top ) end.

I just had a thread going about this earlier today. Its titled something like Why is it bad to rev an engine in nuetral. It puts alot more stress on the crank and rods. Engines were made to be put under a load. Not to spin freely.

Although revving a warm engine up to 4K isnt bad. NO HIGHER though. After that, it can cause damage.

O yea ... If you absolutly HAVE to rev the **** out of it ( Cause its a cool thing to do ) DO NOT hold it at a high RPM. Do your rev, then let it slow back down rite away ...

You was talking about your parents ... So ill assume your young? Another cool thing to do if your still in school :

Wait until someone is walking past your car when your in the student parking lot (Or work, wherever really) and when theyre likea few feet from the car throw em a quick rev . If its a hard ***, be sure to chirp the tires too
