Rocker Arm Studs

I'm currently running a stock shortblock with CNC Heads. Existing RR's are Comp Cams with 3/8" ARP studs. I'm looking to rebuild the engine as a 383. At what point does an upgrade to 7/16" studs from 3/8" become necessary? Is this dictated more by RPM or by cam lift? BTW, the cam I'm looking at running has a .570 lift with 1.6 RRs. I'd rather not spend extra money unnecessarily. Thanks.

The reason for a larger stud is to resist bending due to the forces of stiffer springs and rate of lift. Do a search for a thread that included 'Mindgame' and myself, among others, that may help you in your quest for an answer. Don't recall if thread was here, or in 'advanced'.

Re: Rocker Arm Studs

IMO, 7/16 studs belong on anything with 120+ lbs of spring (seat) pressure. Unless you like giving up a bit of your lift to stud flex I'd go ahead and bite that bullet.
