Question Rocker Studs

What are the chances of breaking a 3/8's inch rocker stud with the lpe 211/219 cam, self-aligning 1.6 comp pro mags and 99893 valve springs? I was told that the 402 lb/in rating on the springs was too high and it would probably break the stud. What kind of spring rate will stock rocker studs vs aftermarket 3/8 and 7/16 studs hold?

It's actually pretty common for even good 3/8 rocker studs to break in a moderate performance application (I see it all the time).....No one can give you an accurate "exact" limit when breakage Can (or will) occur, but Increased spring pressures(over stock), Increased RPM's(over stock), and the use of Self aligning rockers....ALL bring you MUCH closer to the breakage threshold of 3/8 rocker studs...3/8 studs also flex like crazy when compared to 7/16 studs....this increased flex creates a lot of deflection and inaccuracies in the running valve-train that inturn brings you closer to stud breakage (among other parts)....... On my engines, I personally use nothing but (NSA) 7/16 rockers, 7/16 ARP studs, guideplates and "good quality" hardened push-rods......if everything has to be purchased new to begin with, the only added expense is about $30 bucks for guideplates and aprox $100 for a set of decent push-rods (which IMO, any performance engine build should have anyway, if it's cared about)........and I see your going with a 383 with LE-2 heads....I'd get the good stuff to begin with............Joe
