RPM Surging

Re: RPM Surging
If the code came back, you didn't fix the problem. Did you make all the checks outlined in Shoebox's writeup? Did you have 5V reference voltage on the harness wires?
Rather than pull the battery cable off, pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds to clear the codes.

Re: RPM Surging
No don't have a tuner to recommend, I tuned my own after getting and learning how to use a scan tool and a tuner for another car.
No link, I already told you how to check them with a scan tool. You never said if its still an OBD2 PCM or if it was converted to OBD1, my experience has been that OBD2 will throw a code pretty quick when they get lazy, OBD1 not so much if ever on the ones i've had fail.

Re: RPM Surging
I get it, I need a tuner and I agree that would be ideal, however at present time I have no money to spend on equipment. I've read somewhere on this site how to test 02's without a tuner. If someone knows what thread it's in I would appreciate it.
It's OBD2.
Ed no longer Dyno tunes. I am looking for someone to idle tune the car and get the dyno done at a later date.
After thought: How difficult is it to learn how to use a tuner so I can tune it myself. If it's not to difficult I may dicide to buy a tuner like you suggested and do it myself. What tuner is the best one to buy?

Re: RPM Surging
You don't want an "idle" tune. You want the PCM tuned for the complete range of operation, right from the start. Any mail-order tuner can do what you need, and get it "close". Then find a dyno tuner and get it "exact".
Tuning software for an OBD-II PCM is going to cost you more than a mail-order tune. Look at "JET Dynamic Spectrum Tuner for 96/97 LT1".
You will also need scanning software, and you could use that to monitor O2 sensor operation and determine if they are operating correctly. Look at AutoTap OBD-II software.
