Running bad in closed loop....

Hey guys,

My cam is comparable to the CC306 - and my car just does not seem to run right in closed loop. It runs very rich and does not idle right at all. But I can tell once it hits open loop - that it runs a whole lot better.

I am just wondering if there is any way to get my car to stay in open loop without taking it in for a tune. I was told by someone to just unplug the o2 sensors off of my pacesetter long-tube headers. Will this work??

Car is a 1997 BTW

thanx

Assuming you are aware its starting in open loop. It would appear its a case of a "false" lean or rich condition. When you start the engine in open loop, the PCM uses the learned long term fuel corrections, but can't use the short terms for additional correction. That would indicate that when it goes into closed loop, and it starts to respond using the short term corrections, in addition to the long terms, it is "over-correcting".

First scan it to see whats actually happening in open and closed loop. Then correct the problem, rather than eliminating the PCM adjustment capabilities.

Yes it would go to open loop by disconnecting one of the front o2's.

Just a little confused by you saying "once it hits open loop". Since the engine starts in open loop and then goes to closed loop. The only way it would go back to open loop would be either it is throwing a code, you have one of the O2's disconnected (which apparently you don't) or it is at WOT.

Please explain your statement of "once it hits open loop".

If it is jumping back and forth between open and closed loop I'll bet money it's from burned wires. I could even tell you where they are burned too. Been there and did that.
