running temp

What would a correct running temp be.. and with saying that.. i just fixed a leak with the gaskets on my water pump.. filled everything back up..and the temp SHOT up...shut the motor off...bled that bleeder screw right by the water pump..steam came out....shut the screw..filled the radiator back up more..cranked it again.. and the temp gauge steadlly didnt move from the 180 mark...

went to work today..on way to work..temp gauge went from nothing to the 180 mark..and stayed there all the way to work (17 miles)... is that normal that temp gauge will stay at 180 mark.. or should i see it go higher than that.. when i got to work there was no hissing from the motor (so i believe im not overheating)..

thanks
Paul

Nothing wrong with it running at 180 degrees. In stock form, they can run hotter then that. Do you have an aftermarket t-stat or PCM programming by chance?
