scan9495 works why won't anything else work?
Hi, scan9495 works flawlessly but why wouldn't eehack, tuner cats and etc... all of them won't connect properly. I think it might be some sort of setting that isn't allowing communication between pcm and the program. I am using homemade ALDL FTDI usb cable that works with scan9495. I tried the winflash to read the pcm bin file and get "NO RESPONSE FROM PCM". Flashhack won't connect either, so I am pretty sure it is something to do with my cable set up... Any ideas?

Re: scan9495 works why won't anything else work?
I stumbled across someone else posting on a forum stating that they were unable to get a square FTDI chip to communicate properly and that a rectangle FTDI chip will work. So I ordered a new FTDI cable and we will see what happens... The person said that they were able to use scan9495 but not other tuner software, much like my problem.

Are you using a usb to 9-pin com port serial adapter? If I recall correctly, many usb to com port serial adapters are software based which can mean death for the PCM you are trying to flash. As you mentioned, the software doesn't emulate the hardware just right and jacks up the flash process. My JetDST hardware is 9-pin com port. I only use PC laptop hardware that has a com port integrated on the motherboard. That limits me to older heavy laptops, but I'm fine with that.
I don't know if this is your main issue, but there is a specific chipset you must have when using usb to serial adapters to flash a PCM.
About 16 years ago when com ports started disappearing from laptops, we had some applications at Sara Lee(Hanes Brands now) that had to have serial com ports to talk with some older AS/RS hardware. I went through several usb to serial adapters that simply would not work.....I suspect it might be the same issue you are having now.....but I'm not sure. GaryDoug might have some more insight as he has worked with the PCM communications interface much more than I have.

Re: scan9495 works why won't anything else work?
Hi, thank you for your response. I will update for sure when I get the new FTDI to usb cable, I assumed that all "ftdi to usb cables" would all be the same and was shooting for cheap instead of purchasing a more expensive cable. I do know that GaryDougs scan9495 works awesome with the first "cable" I made which was from his instructions on this forum.
I would think that if the "cable" cleared codes and scan with live data (scan9495) from the PCM, that It would be able to download the stock bin file with other programs.

I was able to figure this out. Not all FTDI chips are created equal. My problem was in the cable apparently there is a difference between a square FTDI chip and a rectangle one. The rectangle one works for programming. I was able to download my bin file and use other programs with the new cable.
