Scanned car today found out new opti maybe bad, please read.

First off, all my readings were jumping up and down cause I was driving for a while. My ign timing went from -45.0 deg to -13.8 deg, -28 and so on. Map 57kp A, MAF 17 -24.4 gm/s TPS 0.0 deg
jumped to -20.01 through the ride.

IAT 36 deg C ECT 82 deg C
ST FT 1 -1.5%
LT FT 1 -14%
ST FT 2 0.0%
LT FT 2 -10%

I hope I didn't confuse everyone, cause I have never used one of these sumners before. To make a long story short, after everything I have done to fix my car, we found it was only missing on 1,3,5 & 7 cylinders and my mechanic said the only thing that would cause this is the opti. So, I guess I got bad opti or could anything else cause it to miss on only one side? I hope you all can help cause I will order a new opti tomorrow.

Almost looks like knock pulling timing at idle?

AS for your fuel trim counts, they look ok to me, you will almost always see a little slpit, and your long term bank 1/2 are close pretty close to one another.

Might double check your spark plug wires on the driver's side and make sure they are going to the right cylinders. Its easy to get one crossed.

Keep us posted. I hope it is the opti (so you can get it fixed), but I'm a bit skeptical.

what makes u skeptical, seems to me that it would be the opti cause all the misses are on one side what makes u think otherwise?im open to any and all suggestions i just want my car up and running again.

I think that is why he is skeptical. Sounds like miswired wires to me as well.

It just seems like an odd thing to happen. I really do hope it is the opti.

I've sort of avoided this post, because the scan data you posted is not what is needed. You can't just grab random numbers off a scan, and assume that they mean something. There are 18 different sets of "long term fuel correction" cells.... you've posted a single set of data.... what cell # was it in?

Do you have a data log, or were you reading this off a handheld scanner as you drove. If you have a log, you can see how the various sensors and PCM parameters are working together, at the same point in time.

I would also be skeptical of someone who jumped to the conclusion that since the misfires were all on 1-3-5-7 it muyst be the Opti. First, what were the misfire counts for those cylinders? Were they all roughly equal?

For it to be the Opti, it would mean there may be structural damage to the case, where the four wires are buried in the case to connect to the four towers on the drivers side.... possible, but unlikely. What else is unique to the dirvers side.... drivers side O2 sensor, possible exhaust leaks, possible misfires, possible injector problems, possible cross-firing in the wires on that bank, a high voltage wire running near an O2 sensor wire on that bank, etc. In my mind there are far too many possibilities to just jump to the conclusion "its the Opti".... and I'll put words in Rob's mouth, because I suspect that is why he is skeptical.

You need a good data log, showing the operation of the PCM from stratup through closed loop activiation, "normal" driving and WOT driving.

thanks for posting injuneer i know my scan numbers were insufficent it was a hand held scanner and ive never used one by myself before im just at my wits end with my car u can search and see what all i have done to try and get my car right it just keeps missing.i do know that the missfires were roughly equal cause we just watched it miss on the computer for about 5 minutes and i have already ordered a new opti on warranty wich im supposed to install monday but with all this talk now im skeptical if you could choose 3 things to check before the installation of the opti that u mentioned in your post earlier what would they be a little more specific for myself please i reallly want to thank everyone for the replys to my trouble posts cause with out yall i would really be lost so thanks again and lets see if i can get this solved. randy
