Screaching when shifting?

97 Chevy Z28 Camaro, Auto trans.

When shifting at high acceleration, trans (or what i believe to be the trans) is screaching.. only lasts a 2 or 3 tenths of a second.. but im concerned.. not quite sure if its a serious problem, normal.. or just a common problem.. A couple other 97z owners i know have had the same problem..

Any suggestions?

It's the serpentine belt, a very common issue. I had this happen on my first LT1, the dealer put on a new belt, problem came back, second time they cleaned the pullies, problem came back, so eventually I just gave up and lived with it.

My current LT1 does the same thing occasionally but I just ignore it. It's not harmful.

I concur with the previous statements. It's not really a problem , though. Best to leave it alone.

The Goodyear Gatorback replacement belt will solve that. The belt has notches perpendicular to the grooves.

What's the part number of that Goodyear belt, and does anyone know if someone in Toronto, Ontario sells it?

LOL.. oh hey a good way to see if you belt is making the noise is liek put some white out or something on both sides of the belt and start the car.. that stuff shouldt rub off.. if one of the sides rubs off then your pulleys are off somewhere... Maybe curving in or out??? Friend suggested this to me..I would think though it it were rubbing that it would make a nois all the time..hmmm....
