"Security" Light...

Every once in a while, i'll go to start my car and it won't turn over, and when i pull the key out, the Security light stays on for about 3-5 minutes or something, then goes out, and then i can start the car fine. It happens pretty rarely, but still something odd none the less.

Is there a sensor/security protocol i don't know about?

The chip in your key is a resistor, the column has a wire going across that chip that measures the resistance, if its not right it triggers the security light. Your chip is probably dirty, just take a q-tip and some rubing alcohol and clean the edges, and if your careful you can stick the q-tip in the lock cylinder in the column and gently try to clean it. If the key has alotta crud on it try taking like a pin or something metal and fairly sharp and scrape the crud off. That should fix the problem.
