Semi rebuild question....

Spun a bearing. Can you tell which one is bad?

I am replacing the crank with a used but good condition crank, and replacing the #6 rod (the bearing on this rod spun). While I'm in there I'll also be replacing the cam, rod, and main bearings, and the piston rings.

Will the rod bolts need to be replaced or are they reusable?

Re: Semi rebuild question....

If you're going through the hassle of a rebuild, you might as well use larger rod bolts and have the rods resized.

Re: Semi rebuild question....

When I spun my nearing I found half of it, the rest was in the bottom of my oil pan. I guess I didn't catch the sarcasm in the first post

Re: Semi rebuild question....

Just to clarify, my main question was are the rod bolts TTY and need to be replaced, or are they reusable?

They are reusable.
As a precaution, I'd suggest having a machine shop check the big end bore sizes of the other 7 rods. At the very least, the rod next to the spun bearing probably picked up some heat from the failure.

Well I wanted to have all the rods reconditioned and ARP bolts installed, but that is a little over $200 to have done. I really don't have that kind of money right now.

I'm sitting pretty right now, as I've only spent 280 for another crank, rod/piston, all my fel pro gaskets, clevite 77 rod, main and cam bearings, and a hastings piston ring set.

I'm almost at my budget, as I really only have about $350 to spend on this project, as it just crept up on me. At the same time I don't want to half *** anything while the motor is out.

I would really like to have the rods reconditioned with new bolts because that'd be some major peace of mind.

At least install the caps and measure the rods.
