Serious electrical problem with alternator

Here's the deal that has me stumped. My alternator will not charge at all. The little exciter wire has 12v with the key on. When I start the car and do a volt test on the battery it shows right around 12v just as is does when the car is off. The battery is new and I've tried 2 other batterys out of running cars. The alternator has been tested twice and I also put it in my friends 95Z and it worked perfectly, I also put his alternator in my car with no luck. I connected a wire directly to the back of the alternator and it only went to 1v at about 2500rpm. The belt isn't slipping, I bypassed the exciter plug thinking it might be the plug with no luck, I check the grounds and even sanded them down to shinny metal and still nothing. The wire running to the battery is also fine. I'am basiclly running out of ideas and was hoping somebody had a good idea. Is there any alternator relays or fuses that I don't know about.

Volt test huh..... how about an Amp test? sounds like a bad alternator to me... but before you run to buy a new one... I would check more conections, there must be a bad ground conection or positive conection outside the alternator somewhere.... if not then the bad conection is inside the alternator...

Keep checking and make notes. Its easy to find places you havent checked on when you make notes///

I know it's not the alternator because I had it tested twice and just to make sure it worked I hooked it up to my friends Z and it worked fine. I even took his and hooked it up to my car and his did not work in my car.

Since you have no sig, what kind of car is this in? Is it a transplant into a non-fbody?

It's a 94 Z28. I pulled the motor a few months ago and did the cam/heads swap. Put it back in and has'nt worked since. I figured it was a ground or something, but have been over and over the car with no luck.

Check list number one ...... is the engine block properly grounded?

How many electrical conections to your Alternator?? trace each one.....

I know there is a simple answer to your question here.... and I bet is in a place you havent thought of..yet one of those "up in your face" locations.. trace those wires and conections with an Ohms meter and then go back on them with a voltage meter... I get the feeling the engine block to ground conection was not bolted/screwed back on/////
