You shouldable too get the parts for around 500. Most c.a.m swaps cost 1000 installed. If you can do it yourself it should only cost you half of that

That cam kit, looking like not LT1 specific, has the wrong timing set (at least cam gear). No need buying stuff you can't use.

OP, you could probably talk to any one of the many site sponsors and they could provide you with everything you need as far as a cam kit goes. Then, there is always the LT4 HOT cam kit.

Vicki,

Don't forget about the cost of reprogramming the PCM. If you change the cam, that must be done. That cost is generally in the $175-$200 range.

Also, can you list EXACTLY what all they have done to the motor thus far?

Everything is stock, other than they bored out the motor a little bit more. Just had the gaskets redone - long block rebuild is what was done.

I looked at the Hot cam kit, but can't find a full kit where everything comes with it. I'll look at the sponsors...

Re: In SERIOUS need of help with a 95 Z28.

No new bearings? 0.030 over pistons(assuming bored 0.030 over)?

Surely they did more than just bore it out, leave in the stock pistons, and re-gasket everything....I hope for his and your sake they did.

Re: In SERIOUS need of help with a 95 Z28.

Timing chain, pistons, crank bearing, cam bearing, oil pump, and new gaskets.

He just got home from work and forgot his phone at home today

One step above stock is what they told him.

GM Performance 12480002 - GM Performance LT4 Hot Cam Hydraulic Roller Cam Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Same thing I put in mine, it's a nice package with everything you need besides gaskets and a tune.

make sure you check the dowel pin length on the new cam with the one you take out and make sure they are the same length.

Re: In SERIOUS need of help with a 95 Z28.

Coming direct from Comp Cams
He said I need:

Cam #07-501-8
Lifters:#850-16
Springs: #26918-16
Retainers: #787-16

Doing it this way I would save a bunch of money ordering from one site and not comp direct. Do I need anything else to finish up the cam redo?

Re: In SERIOUS need of help with a 95 Z28.

you can get a set of roller rockers for 100$. but ya.

with the comp stuff then your not getting roller rockers which you will need.

your spending more for the comp and getting lifters instead of roller rockers, both are equally vital.

its a toss up. the GM hot cam kit is cheaper by 100$ prolly, and a set of lifters is 100$.

so if you get the comp setup your pay 100$ more and a good set of Roller rockers will cost you atleast 200$ if not more. so then you will be paying 300$ more then if you went with the gm hot cam setup

GM Performance 12480002 GM Performance LT1/LT4 Hot Cam Kit

and get these gm ls7 lifters that fit your motor for 160$:
