Should I just get rid of my emissions crap?

Should I just get rid of my emissions crap?
What would be the consequence of getting rid of my emissions equipment? I have a 96 LT1.
The charcoal cannister is bad, I have O2 sensors that are bad, and I would bet that my catalytic converters ought to be replaced.
What can I safely get rid of?
There is a cost issue here as well.
O2 sims? Get rid of my cats? Can I get rid of the charcoal cannister as well? What about the air pump?
HELP! I've been spending so much time trying to get my car running decent again, and i'm having nothing but problem after problem.
Im about at my wits end.

Where are you at. Do you have to worry about emmisions testing. I would say get rid of all of it if you haveing problems with it. The front O2 sensors you will have to keep but then rears you can delete. You can also delete the EGR.

Actually Im right across the street from you in omaha. La Vista at the moment.
So you're saying I can in a sense rip everything off the car but the rear O2 sensors?
I sound like a moron asking these questions, but all at once i've had so much trouble with the car, I just want to have a more definite idea of what I can do here.

The rears can be deleted and you can either tune them out or buy O2 simulators for around $80. The fronts you will need.
I know in Nebraska there is no emmisions testing, not sure about Iowa.
So you can delete the cats, AIR, EGR, the rear O2 sensors, and the carbon canister if you wish.
Most of these are free or very cheap to delete.

So as far as the process of deleting all of that.... do i just go in and take it all off? (besides adding O2 sims and pipe in place of the cats.)
Where can i get a pipe to put in place of my cats? I havent checked summit yet, but ive been looking other places and cant seem to find anything for a 96

Well if you want to spend some money you can buy a catless y-pipe, or you can just use a piece of pipe in place of the cats if you trying to save some $. You can weld it in, clamp it in or put flanges on it. You will either have to do the work yourself or find a hi-po shop because most muffler shops will not remove the cats because it illegal.
And for the AIR system you just take out the pump and the AIR lines. Then you will need to buy caps for the headers, they are like $1.50 a piece.
For the EGR system you can either buy $15 aluminum block off plates or attempt to make your own.
You will also need a few vaccuum caps.
