I've had nothing but good luck with mine. In the 11 years I've owned the car the opti has been changed twice. I still have the stock original and it still works. It was changed out at 115K miles just because.
The stocker did experience the loose rotary screws after 30K miles, but that was fixed easily.

I'd like to know how many good optis have been thrown away that have been exposed to moisture... That thought makes me sad.

The optisparks seem to last, but the big problem (in my life),was the water pump leaking onto it.(remember, the opti has been used in racing for about 30 years now.)G.M.did not invent it(I could be wrong).Thanks.

It's kind of funny how the vented opti's are well regarded. My 93 Trans Am as well as my friends 94 Z have 130k and 140k respectively on the original optis. Where as two of my other buddies, both 96's have had nothing but problems with theirs.

150K before I had to replace my opti. Can't complain, there are lots of parts that can go bad and need replacing. Unfort, when the opti fails, it leaves you stranded.

I wouldn't let it deter you. Mine ran fine for at least ~115k miles, including through one water pump death with the previous owner around 90k, and only was replaced as part of my cam/timing chain/etc. install.

Its got 53k on the clock right now. Not bad for the originals. Ill be changing those soon to see if it takes care of my miss above 5200 rpm's. So, I would not let the Opti steer me away form the LT1 cars. Not as bad aas people say it is.
yea i got 62k and some change on my stock plugs and wires =D still kickin turboed 4-bangers butts so im pleased but im about to put some msd wires and irdium plugs in her. =DD
