I was lead to believe that the filters are K&N. They sure look like it. I could be wrong, but its what I thought

The filters are K&N and you can recharge them. Any store that sells K&N filters should have the recharge kit that consists of a bottle of cleaner to get rid of the old oil/dirt, and a bottle of the new oil. Around here Checker Auto sells it for like $10-15.

I read a thread awhile back and someone said the filters were not K&N filters. Either way it doesn't matter--they function the same and you can use the K&N recharge kit.

Cool

the SLP unit comes with non K&N reusable filters. K&N filter can be added for an extra charge. The K&N filter recharge kit can be had at any local auto parts store. Should be no more than $20.00 for two aerosol cans of cleaner and oil. Check the filters when you change your oil. You'll know by sight when they need cleaning. Clean at least once every 10,000 miles.

I clean mine with K & N Recharge Kit every other oil change, about 6000 miles. I used to do it every oil cahnge as recommended, but the filters didn't look dirty at all. The CAI has been on since July 97 with no problems.

sorry trey, i probally didn't explain my question good enough. i do realize that every cai will give very similar gains. i just did not know about the quality of the filters themselves. now that read my question, it was probally a dumb one. i just have not heard too much on the slp filters. i hear a lot about k&n filter though. i just wanted to make sure the slp can handle what a k&n can without falling apart. thanks for the help though.

The filters that SLP supplied with the CAI have been on my car for five (5) years. The cloth part of the filters looks perfect. The wire on the side where they touch is a little dinged up but that is my fault. I'll bet K & N supplies the filters to SLP.

That's what I suspect. Just like the major brands supply staples to supermarkets under supermarket brands.

One reason I didn't order the K&N filters for an additional charge. I think the ones supplied with unit are non branded K&Ns.
