Soak new parts in oil?

A friend mentioned this to me...my cam install is Saturday, and I was wondering if I should soak any of my new valvetrain parts in oil overnight or something?

TIA

Soak? No I dont think that necessary its not like they are going absorb anything.

Lube them? Now that doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

Lifters should be soaked in oil.

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

Argggg... Sorry guys, long night.

So instead of soaking them in *** like I said last night

I say clean the parts with brake clean/mineral spirits first. Then give them a coat of oil or assembly lube. Lifters should be soaked in oil for an hour +. Wouldnt hurt them to have a little lube too

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

You'll want to soak the lifters in oil, that's for sure.

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

I just cleaned every part with mineral spirits, and lubed with oil. I can NOT believe the amount of dirt and metal shavings that came off of my brand new GM guideplates, and the amount of grease on my Comp Magnum pushrods.

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

If you have a new timing chain I recommend soaking that too.

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

I cleaned my double roller in mineral spirits and soaked it in oil, along with every other part.

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

I am also starting my cam install this weekend and had a similar question. I am just reusing my stock lifters, but the car has been sitting for 2.5 months now. Should I still soak my stock lifters for an hour? If so, is it as easy as putting oil in a bowl and placing the lifters in it or is there more to it?

Re: Soak new parts in oil?

I'm reusing my stock lifters too. They're coming out tomorrow night, and the cam is going in the following day.

I bought a few catch pans and put some oil in, and soaked the parts in there. I guess you could get a smaller container and put the lifters in, then fill it with oil (like putting ice cubes in a glass then pouring a drink in).
