some opinions

I have a few questions that I'd like opinions on. I just bought my 94Z28 6spd and I was wondering whats some thoughts on the best kind of heads to put on it...best as in most performance diff and what not. Secondly, the car has a Dynomax cat-back exhaust on it..I would like it a little louder and mean sounding...I have a flowmaster on my 94V6 camaro, but I've heard Flows dont sound that good on Z28's...I thought about maybe Borla exhaust, but I'd just like some feedback and opinions.

I had flowmaster on my 3rd gen, one of my best friends has them on his 4th gen I think it sounds good. I'm going with magnaflow when I get one.

Flowmaster sounds awesome on my 95 z28.. it's an A4 though so it's pretty quiet cruising around.. but when I floor it, everyone knows it i've seen some nice Flowmasters on eBay for great prices

When I bought my 93, it had a flowmaster dual chamber, and it sounded awesome!!!! But, so does my random tech.

Don't worry about the heads until you do the important bolt-ons first. Then look into a better cam followed by some upgraded heads.

As for exhaust, Flowmaster not sounding good on Z28's!? I guarantee ya it'll sound a 1,000,000 x better on your new LT1 as compared to your V6. I personally think it sounds good(especially with an aftermarket cam). Borlas have a unique sounding rumble(sounds completely opposite of Flowmaster). And they are both quite a bit louder/meaner than the Dynomax. Try and find some people locally with different systems on their LT1's to actually hear them in person. Because we all like something different.

Congrats on the new car,

Mike

There is a 97Z around here that has Borlas on it and it sounds mean as hell. I love the way it sounds..most Z's in my area have stock exhaust or something like what the people put on the one I bought (Dynomax). I planned on gettin cam, maybe a throttle body, and gears along with heads and exhaust, but i wanted to do the heads and exhaust first. Another thing that I wonder about is my buddy at work last night brought up the subject of cast iron heads vs aluminum heads. I had always been told that aluminum heads are better but he says that cast iron produces more power, unlike aluminum which kills horsepower cause it reduces heat. So is he right or what I've always been told right??

Iron heads flow well but not well enough to justify the weight increase over aluminum heads. I've never heard anyone put Iron heads on their 4th gen F-Body. Probably because its not a smart thing to do. Aluminum heads are more practical and flow very well too, especially when ported out. Get aluminum heads when you do. One of the many ways to go faster is weight reduction, why add unnecessary weight??? Also I agree with 2000LS1Z28, get the imporant bolt-ons first.

SOOO what I should do is get the cat-back exhaust first (whichever I choose) and then what do most people do from there on there Z's. Like I said, on my v6 i got intake & exhaust and thats more of a centimental car for me so I wanna do engine work to the Z...and only engine work. So any thoughts and opinions would be nice.

you couldn't give me Flowmasters, my 97 had them when I bought it they are poor quality from what they used to be, the baffles were unwelded and rattling around. I have Borla and love the performance and sound.

If you really like the sound of the Borla exhaust on LT1's, you'll be very happy with this system. Just make sure to never remove your cats with this exhaust or it will sound like a$$(very raspy/unrefined).
