Someone asked me this today....

.....and I didn't know the answer. He said does that have a corvette transmission too? I'm guessing the answer is yes. What do you think?

It should have the same T-56 Borg Warner transmission that the C4's of that year('96) had. EDIT: Unless the Vettes had different 6-speed transmissions? I'm not exactly sure.

But I hate when people call them "Corvette" parts. You know, like does your Z28 or TA have the Corvette engine in it?

The F-body and Y-body just happen to share a lot of the same power/drivetrain, that's all...

The corvette is a Y body? I always thought it was a C body, since I hear that the 5th gen corvette refered to as a C5

Correct... the LT1 Corvettes never came with the B-W T56. They had the ZF 6-speed, with virtually the same ratios as the 94-97 T56, and the same type of "skip shift" feature built in. But they weren't the same trannies.

is that ZF 6 spd a better tranny than the T56? i thought i read somewhere that it was a german trans which made it very expensive to work on or replace.

Yes it is a German Trans and no they are not better. In fact I hear they are a weaker transmission. All I know is that they supposedly are not as good as the BW T-56. I believe the new Vettes either have switched to the Tremec T-56 or will be switching over soon.

Isnt that the truth. Once the word "CORVETTE" comes out, everyone is like "whoa, Its a fast car" I think some people really need to look closer at whats in a vette and realize its not the fastest car out there. Yes They are quick, but so is an f-body.

An F body with 'Corvette' parts automatically increases the value of your car too!

I mean just look at ebay, people think they're car is worth more when they say it has a Corvette engine.

The ZF may not be a stronger tranny than the T-56, but it's a night and day difference. It's incredibly smooth, and not notchy like the T-56.

LOL I almost had my Z28 towed away cause somone could not tell the diff.... by the way the driveway had three cars parked side by side... I was the last one to park there. I went to check out the corvette and thats how I figured the whole thing out!!!
