spring question
i was scoping around for springs and prices for them. most of the descriptions will tell you everything about them except how much lift they can handle. is there a reason why they dont state the lift characteristics? how would you find out how much these springs can handle...i'm keeping my stock cam but plan on putting on some 1.7rr's on the stock 3/8 studs... can anyone tell me what my max lift would be with this setup? could someone offer a good set of affordable springs that i should look into? and also the only reason im going with the stock studs is because i dont know where to go to find bigger studs... please help me out...

Lift is an implied value in the spring specs.
It greatly depends on the installed height, as to the lift you can run with a spring.
If you use the factory recommended installed height, and subtract the coil bind numbers from that, you get max lift at coil bind.
Then you deduct just a tad from the max lift number to allow some room before coil bind.
For example: 1.750 installed height, 1.100 coil bind, means .650 max lift at coil bind. Subtracting .030 for clearance, that gives you a max lift of .620...
As for your other question, of running 1.7s on the 3/8's studs, I wouldn't do that. 1.7 rockers are going to increase the strain on the studs, so I'd upgrade them to 7/16's studs.
My understanding for max lift on UNmilled heads, you're looking at .600. So I'd be hard pressed to run anything over .595 myself only because I like to have some room to breath.
Basically, I've read that at .600 you need to clay the head to see if you're going to get any piston to valve contact.
Hope this helps...
EDIT: Combo motorsports should also be able to help you out with the bigger studs for the rockers.

The real question you should be asking is if a radial 1.7rr with your mods will really provide much of a benefit. I'd recommend that you stick with a quality set of 1.6rrs and put your time and money into other mods.

alright i went to cmotorsports and i found the valvesprings... its crane's lt1 aluminum head spring set part # CRN-10308-1, it says it comes with seats and locks. so if i get the rockers for the 7/16" studs ($202), those springs (~$180), gmpp guide plates (??? on price but not to expensive if i remember), and the new studs... is that all i need??? im assuming so... but please let me know, i dont want to forget anything.

If your car doesn't have hardened pushrods, you'll need them too.
I know that some years came with them, but can't remember which ones. I think the 94-95 models came with hardened from the factory.
