Question ST3500 stall and OBD1.....help

I know there was a post about this about 2 days ago but I didn't get all the info I wanted. I heard that running a high stall in OBD1 cars has become a problem for some owners. They say they have to convert to OBD2 or get the computer reprogrammed.
Question 1- what is the highest stall you can put on an OBD1 car?
Question 2- What do you have to do to convert to OBD2?
Question 3- What are the problems you guys are having with OBD1?
Question 4- Who did you go to for computer help, PCM4LESS or ED Wright? Which one is better?

I would like to know soon cause I am looking for a ST3500 right now.

I'm going to TRY to help ya out on this one...not 100% on this but:
for question 1- I don't really think there is a limit to what stall you can put in it. 3500 sounds most common and thats what I would get (make it a Yank or Vigilante)

Question 2- I belive you need an odb2 computer and wires but not sure.

question 3- the only problem i've ever heard of is weird shift points

question 4- ED WRIGHT - I'll go to him forever.

anyway, hope this helps. Most of this stuff i've kinna heard through the grapevine so let me know what you find out.

obd1

Anything above 2800 RPM generally (but not in all cases), causes the shift problem with 1st and 2nd gear. PCMforless can take care of it for you with your present obd1 setup. No need to change to obd2.

Some OBDI cars are hit and miss with the problem. I've got a Vig 3200 (stalls at 3800), and I didn't have the problem.

One of my friends had his shift tables adjusted by Bryan from PCMforLess, and it solved his "OBDI doesn't like big stall" problem.

I've got his programming to, and I'm happy with it.

I had the ST3500 (btw, a kick *** TC!!), and did not have the shifting problems until I stalled it up on the line, then it would not shift, but leaving off idle it would do just fine.

I would contact PCMForLess and see if he can help you if you start to have the problem.

to go to OBDII is more than just the PCM, it is KSs and the correct A4, a 94 4l60e does not like the OBDII PCM. Not sure what year your car is but there is a difference. if you really need to know that information email me and i can give you all that.

I decided to go TH350 b/c I have LT1 edit/TTS Datamaster and wanted to retain tuning/logging, switching to OBDII would require me to get OBDII editor/Autotap/different A4-that would have to be rebuilt also, that was going to be a butt load more than just swapping in the TH350.

good luck!

Since you have a 93' and your transmission (4l60) shifts are controlled with a TV cable, you will not have any problems running the ST 3500 or larger. You shouldn't need to worry about converting to OBD II or having programming issues. Only the 4l60e (94'&95') cars seem to run into the 1-2 shift problem especially when they begin to hook hard (high 1.60 60ft's).

Hope this helps!

Since you have a 93 you shouldn't have any problems. I don't know if an OBDII conversion is even possible on a 93.

Thumbs up sometimes..BIG Stall causes NO 3rd Gear

The problem I was having ....3700 Yank and when trans would shift into 3rd gear, the computer could not handle it and it would put the trans in limp mode. Computer gets screwed up and can't handle a big stall. I purchased a Trans Control Unit and did away with my computer running the trans. You can make all your adjustments with a laptop. I went thru 4-5 trannys till I got this solved.
I used Bryan (PCM4LESS) and his tuning is great. He really knows his computers and tuning. He is a real gentleman and I would highly recommend him.
