Stall Convertor questions..

I have a 93 Z28 A4 700R4 with several motor bolt ons, mild head work, Nitto DRs, no cat or mufflered exaust and about to install 3.42s and headers. I was wondering which is a good affordable Torque convertor and what stall to get. I manually shift my A4 when I race at the drag strip. I rarely drive my car to work but sometimes take it criusing on weekends so it needs to be street worthy also. I plan to add N2O in the future so I want a TC that will hold up.
Thanks for your help guys! Here are my questions, sorry for so many...

1. Is it gonna affect my manual shifts with a higher stall convertor?
2. What does "lock up" mean?
3. what are "anti-ballooning N2O plates" referring to?
4. What do they mean when they say it is "loose" below rated stall speed on the street?

Re: Stall Convertor questions..

1. no
2. not 100 percent on this so FWIW ......the converter "locks up" and applies direct torque from the flywheel directly to the trans bell housing shaft. it is not completely a fluid coupling when the TC "locks up". i have a transgo shift kit in my 4L60E that provided a lock up upgrade. it feels like another gear. when i am in drive instead of 3 bumps (1-2, 2-3, and 3 to OD) i get a 4th (OD to lock up). it helps the whole drivetrain run more efficiently. the coupling doesnt lose as much torque when TC locks up.
3. ?
4. again i am not sure so FWIW ...... i think the loose you refer to is slip. my TC stalls at 2400. my car still moves at 1300 when i push on the gas normally. if i jam on the pedal the rpms "flash" instantly to 2400 before the tires / trans turn one little bit. the loss of forward motion when the pedal is pushed when i floor it is the slip (loose).

i bought a mojave green TC from a local shop here in socal. it was exactly as advertised for 285 no core, 235 with core. TCI, B&M, ART CARR are just of few of the big names. expect to pay much more than 250 to 300 for the reputation, especially if you go into the 9 or 10 inch converters. my stall at 2400 works fine for the street. i have read posts as high as 3000 for a dialy driver.

hope that helps and i am sure if i am lying to you someone will correct me.
