Starter broke when I tried to start 95 LT1

My car has been parked for a while now due to dead 3 and 4 gears in the transmission. When I went to go start it a bit ago to move it, there was a loud thunk sound and now it just clicks when ya try to start it.

After pushing the car instead of driving it outta the way, I found this on the ground

Any ideas what could make it do this besides the engine seizing? Or it definitely sound like it's seized?

See if it can be turned by hand (remove plugs, if needed).

I keep meaning to do that, I had to do it to my truck as well but the truck is much easier than an LT1 Can I get to the crank pulley bolt from the top very easy once the air intake stuff is removed?

Yes you can get to it from the top, it's just easier from the bottom.

I am happy the camaro is in the garage for the winter now, but it makes it rather hard to get to I haven't had a change to mess with it so I was curious if this has ever been seen before, cause I certainly havent

I've seen it before on this forum but I didn't pay attention to what the solution was.

Here's a few that I found - anything from it being hydrolocked, ignition, or optispark.

I've seen it hydrolocked before because of an injector stuck wide open. It filled the cylinder full of fuel and when he tryed to start it, BOOM! Parts of the starter fell everywhere. Kinda hard to compress a cylinder full of liquid fuel.

My first thought was, "shouldn't that be in the bellhousing?"

That happened to me once trying to start it after I hosed down the opti with a water hose.

If the optispark is sending the signals for the spark plugs to fire up out of order, it could screw up how the pistons are going up and down when you're first starting the engine and will cause the flexplate to spin erratically against the gear for the starter which would kick the starter's gear away from the flexplate and "crack goes the starter"

That happened to me when my first opti died. I gathered up all the parts to replace the opti, did a head/cam combo then as well as lots of other work. Ended up getting it all back together only to remember that the starter was broken. Not to have the satisfaction of hearing my new creation run that day taken away from me I threw the starter on the TIG table and welded it back together. It is still there, almost two years later
