Starting car after 8 months change oil?
Hello folks,
My car has been sitting for 8 months since I've been away and I have not been able to work on it. Before I semi rebuilt the motor, I put new oil in the car and everything. I only ran the car for 5 minutes because of a bad water pump. Now I still need to break the cam in and it's reccomended that I run the car for 20minutes at 3K RPMS, then change the oil afterwards. Since I have to change the oil anyway should I just use the oil that's been sitting in the pan for 8months to break the motor in? Or should I drain it and add new oil then break the motor in?

I would say your safe with the old oil for 20 minutes off running. I would do it if it was my car because it is probably in need of a good flush and this would be a great time to do it. I would not change the filter until after the run either way. How many miles it had on the old oil is also important. $12 for 5 quarts of oil is not that much.
