starting problem

starting problem

hi i have a 97 z28 and when i try to start it cranks but no start, i try a second time sometimes third and starts with a little hesitation but runs fine afterwards. after its been run, like after a drive it usually will start right up but sometimes does same thing when cold starting. i have no idea how to fix it any help would be apreciated.

It takes fuel spark and air to start her up. Check to make sure you aren't losing fuel pressure when you turn it off and make sure your plugs are good . Could also check to make sure your battery has a full charge and holds it.

Another vote for checking your fuel pressure. There's a check valve in the fuel pump that holds the pressure at the fuel rail for starting. If that check valve fails, the car will be hard to start but run fine. Attach a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the back of the fuel rail, turn the ignition key to on, let the fuel pump prime (2 seconds) and see if the pressure come up to the high 30's and does not fall off quickly after the fuel pump shuts off.
