Steam Pipe Replacement

Steam Pipe Replacement
I built a steam pipe for one of my friend's LT1s. We pulled the motor out of the car for a little freshen up and a few mods. We are hoping to go low-mid 11's on a pretty much stock shortblock. I can't really give out what all is done to it, but I can talk about this steam pipe I designed. I work for Eaton-Aeroquip and I can get Aeroquip hose and fittings pretty reasonably, so I built this....
Maybe this will be a little more appreciated on this site. Some of the other sites are more worried about little details in the thread than the actual content. This steam line that is by far nicer than the GM contraption and it functions well. I have all of the part numbers in case anyone would like to build one. Parts can be had on summit or wherever you like to shop. Hope it can be useful to someone!

Re: Steam Pipe Replacement
I replicated a similar setup on my own car about 5 months ago, a customers car a year ago, and so have several of my friends' cars, all using a different method/setup each time (it's all 1/4" NPT pipe thread to -6AN if I recall), so don't think you're the first. Looks nice anyway.
Why can't you divulge more about the motor? There's nothing top-secret about anything anyone does with an LT1 - it's been around long enough where everything is out and already on the table.

Re: Steam Pipe Replacement
The motor/car is pretty well known around our area. There are too many people copying everything we have been doing so we are no longer releasing any information on our setups. I can assure you, there are some things on this car that no one else has tried or we have taken an idea someone else had and we actually made it work. R&D time has made this car fast. The car went sub 12's last year with stock, untouched heads and shortblock, stock 6 speed, and a 10 bolt. I know that's not unheard of, but believe me, for what all is done to it, it's quick. It's got more done to it now, but we are tired of seeing everything we do copied around us. We were surprising people right and left with the last setup. This one is even better. We got innovative with some of the things we saw no one else doing, so we think other people should be innovative too.
I did a setup like this almost 2 years ago with another friend's car and have seen similar setups like these. I just never shot pics of the last one I did. It will be nice for search purposes in the future if someone is looking for ideas though.

You don't exactly list where you're from so I doubt someone is going to come on here and take the time to copy your setup. I assure you there's nothing special about what you've got.
There are bolt-on cars deep into the 12s and even into the 11s, and one that I know of knocking on sub 7-second 1/8th mile times.
Then again it's your (friend's) car. Play shadow games all you want.

Re: Steam Pipe Replacement
It IS my friend's Formula. No shadow games, it's not my car. I'm done in the LTX game, I bought a LS1, but that's a whole different story. Yeah, my friend would get pretty mad if others knew what all he was running before the year started. Thing is too, I have seen the bolt on cars in the high 11's, and they are almost always high stalled automatics with like 4.10 gears and tons of weight reduction. This is a 6 speed car cutting pretty low 60' times with a 10 bolt too. Like I said though, you would be surprised if I were able to say something.
Around here, there is actually a kid who bought a red 1997 Z28 so that he could literally make a copy of my friend's red 1995 Z28 that he rolled over a few years ago. Literally everything is the same. Down to the rotating assembly type, heads, window tint, and rear end.... all the same. To me everyone should be original and build something they think is cool. I wish I could say more, but I can't. You are right though, the parts on the motor are nothing special really. All common LT1 parts, but the cam and other parts are all to our specs and when things are matched up right, they run better. ON top of that, we have one heck of a tuner that can squeeze more power out of these cars than anyone else I have seen.

Re: Steam Pipe Replacement
Ahhhh, I can still remember how mad LT1 owners get when another LT1 with a lot less money in it whoops on them. If you do some research and try a few things out, you can go faster than the guy who bolts on parts. But, that's not research and development now is it....

Thanks for the pictures on the steam pipe. It looks nicely done...
