Still need opinions on high rpm oil pressure drops on acceleration!
I know this has been posted before and noe one really had an exact cause. I know it can be a varity of things but im still looking for more ideas or maybe someone fixed there problem. I have a 97 6spd Z28 60K miles, basically stock and very well maintained. I noticed that under moderate to heavy acceleration the oil pressure gauge will go up and read totally normal unitl about 4500 rpm or so it will drop very quickly to slightly below 40psi then jump right back up to normal for heavy accel (around 50-60psi). This is really starting to concern me so I want more input. I tried a few things to show that it isnt the oil stuck in the back of the pan because it will do it even if it isnt floored. Like I will accelerate fairly normal but allow the rpms to continue pretty high to about 5K. Lets hear your ideas!
Thanks

I didn't read the responces from your last post so this may be a repeat.
If it's not dropping below 40 psi you certainly do not have a problem worth worrying about.
My quess is that it's either sender or gage. Get a direct reading gage and some flex tubing mount it so you can read it while driving. Then you'll know if it's real or just an electrical snafu.

Yes I am very picky when it comes to oil and oil changes. Infact, I did an oil change just to see if it has an effect on this problem. I went from Mobile one oil filter to stock Delco and always use Mobile 1 5w30..No change at all after oil change.

Mine does the same thing, but it drops to around 25psi. Since no one can figure it out I'm just gonna drive it normally. The car has done this since I bought it, and I have raced it but maintained it well.

I just read on here the other day that when you accelerate, the oil in the heads move towards the back of the heads and doesnt drain down into the pan as quickly. It makes sense, they said you could drill your oil passages bigger. I dunno though. I've never staired at my oil pressure guague under hard acceleration.
