stock maf vs. aftermarket maf

A week ago I took my stock MAF sensor off and cleaned it when I put it back on my coolant fans wouldn't kick on. But if I unhooked the MAF the fans would kick on. So I think my MAF might be bad. If the it is bad would it be best to buy a stock piece or aftermarket?

I bored and polished my stock MAF and it works much better. My throttle response is ten times better and the car feels like it pulls much harder.

If you want one like mine, let me know... I can bore these out on the machine we have.

Stock MAF is pretty expensive. I was in the same issue you are in, my stock maf took a dump, and I WAS going to buy a new stock one until I saw the z06 maf conversion at http://www.ls1speed.com its $150 and it comes with the adapter harness. ITS BIG, so you mite have to goto home depot and get a steel clamp adapter if you have a CAI, but its nice, and alot better then spending $200+ for a stock one.

Stock MAFs are cheaper here in Houston. A local parts yard where I buy them from sells them for $45.00 with a 30 day warranty. Try getting any warranty on an electrical part at Autozone.

I also can bore them out for $75.00... so if you want something like that, spending $120.00 is still cheaper than the Z06 MAF and it looks stock with the same benefits.

A Factory GM Z06 MAF costs $85 shipped from GM Parts direct, The Pigtail cost $22 shipped from Ramchargers... That's $97... still cheaper that $120 uncalibrated bored out stock LT1 MAF.

Although to use the Factory GM Z06 MAF you must either have your PCM programmed for the different MAF flow/Frequency cureves or program it yourself. Not to mention if it fails again.. I go to ANY GM dealership and have a new part for under $100.

The zo6 maf from ls1speed.com comes with the adapter harness and already calibrated. Its a bolt on, and does not require tuning. If you get the GM dealer z06 maf, you will require tuning.

Yep... That would probably be me. It does have a Flow on it. Mostly stock with a few little mods here and there. I am just hitting this car one simple mod at a time.

I live in the Sweetwater area of Sugar Land but work in Spring at a hanger in the airport up here.

You definately don't want to get a granatelli that's for sure Best thing i've seen to do is just port and polish the stock one.
