Stroker Kit

I am looking to find a stroker kit for my 96 Bird. I have seen the one from nu-tekmotorsports. I havent really been able to find them anywhere else. I am not comfortable on buying this part here and that part there because of the fact I am not to sure about it all. Nu-tek has a 383 package with a Scat cast steel crank/ Eagle H-beam rods/ SRP pistons/ Speed Pro rings & Federal mogul bearings/ Includes Balancing $1525...I was wondering if that is a good deal or can I find the same thing elsewhere cheaper?

thanks
matt

a word to the wise, do a search on Nu-Tek on some of the F-body boards before you buy from them.

First, you are smart for not buying the parts piecemeal, unless you know exactly what you are doing. As far as price goes, everyone pays about the same thing for the parts, so anytime you find a price that's significantly less than the "going rate" you need to be sure it has exactly the same components. In the extreme case, a really low price may mean a shady operation.

How would you know? The price on everything but the cams is "$please call".

General engine rebuild discussion should be in a general tech forum- transfering to LT1 Tech.

Thanks.

Time to put the crack pipe down. Try clicking on the link before proclaiming it useless...

Are we talking about the same site?

I clicked on the link, it took me to the home page of Combination Motorsports. I selected LT1/LT4 products from the menu item Engine Store. Under "Ported Cylinder Heads", "Heads/Cam Packages", "Engine Short Blocks", and "Fully Assembled Crate Engines", every price was listed as "$please call". The only link with actual prices was "Cam Design Services".

Nowhere did I see stroker packages separate from a short block or full engine package. Nowhere did I see prices. Perhaps you can show me what I'm missing? Or maybe you'd like to share your crack?

Personally, I would go to a local high performance engine builder and talk to him, They generally get the best prices on parts and for not a whole lot of money will put together your shortblock as you would need some machining with a 383 anyways. Most reputable engine builders will back up there motors if you have any problems you would have some recourse. Just my .02

I'll trade you some crack for that spiffy little motor you built!

Click on "parts store", then select 93-97 F-bodies, and they have a bunch of stuff...with prices even!

I saw that belatedly. I was distracted by the "engine store" menu option... one would expect to find rotating assemblies and related parts in a section having to do with the engine...

Agreed! I only said they had a good selection. I didn't say anything about common sense!

Going to a reputable High Performance machineshop locally and having them build you the shortblock out the door with a Warranty is proably one of the best options. Tell them what the purpose of the motor will be and they will tailor the peices to your needs.
Now if you are **** like myself you will select each part you want to go with, bug the machine shop everyother day through the whole process, assemble it yourself destroying about 4 sets of bearings and pay a little more.
I have done it both ways and with on my second one I had just let them do it...lol
