Re: Stronger timing chain?

Extreme Duty vs. the production LT4 parts (which are better than the stock LT1 parts).

Choices: stock replacement LT1 parts, stock replacement LT4 parts, LT4 Extreme Duty parts, or fit gen I SBC parts (requires electric WP).

Re: Stronger timing chain?

Pete Jackson gear drive, have your PCMs Knock Sensor tuned to pull ZERO timing out when it senses knock, if you know anything about cars...you hear a knock shut it down...

Pete Jackson gear drive can spin above 8,000 rpm, they have a quiet drive which is whisper quiet and there is no chain deflection at all. Next best setup would be the billet cam degree adjustable setups Crane & Comp carry but they are not cheap. Cloyes, LT4, yada yada yada there ok but for zero timing deflection you can't beat the Pete. If your conservative and just want something a little bit better than stock I'd say you had some good replies in here.

Re: Stronger timing chain?

The cam I am installing is xe224/230 which is a mild cam. I dont need a radical setup. I will be putting in a LT4 knock sensor/module if that is what you were saying. That will cover my setup anyways. And another questing, will the "regular" LT4 setup work on that cam nicely or should I spend the money for the ED LT4 timing set?? Is the "regular" LT4 timing set loose like the LT1 or is it pretty tight??

Re: Stronger timing chain?

There is nothing wrong with an electric water-pump. It doesn't flow as much in theory at higher rpms, but the cooling system can only flow so much anyway. The faster you pump the water has nothing to do with how cool it runs......that is the radiators job. If you spin your motor past 4500 you coolant system won't even flow that much coolant and builds pressure which is what causes the 10rwhp drop off up top, and makes it feel sluggish. This pressure that the mechanical pump creates is good....if you are going to be running a hot motor because it increases the boiling point of the coolant. But if you keep the temp below 210 you have no worries. The biggest problem i hear is the relay going out unexpectantly and then you are stranded. I plan on doing the Merize elec really soon........there's just no reason not to IMO.

Re: Stronger timing chain?

I have been reading a lot in other posts and I understand the electric water pump explination. I have been contemplating going with the Meizer and the Cloyes timing set. Not for sure yet but I am leaning toward this option at the moment. I still have awhile to decide but I am gathering up parts and tools for the project.

If anyone has been following this post and would like to see the car that all this is going into and the projects going in along with it...the website is http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/skibbe_96z

Thanks for all the help...keep posting, the more information the better to help me out and my desicion. Give me your opinion.

Thanks
