sts turbo or le3/396?

Re: sts turbo or le3/396?
I vote for a 383 with an LE2 and spray it.
Thats what I am going to be building this year, I already have an LT1 manifold setup with direct port fogger and am going to build the 383 so I will make decent power off the bottle and ALOT of power on the juice.
Hopefully, with that setup I can run the number at the track but still be able to cruise with it reliably.
Keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

Also i say afrs and 383 but no turbo...spraying it would be cheaper and easier to hide.

If ya got it,flaunt it.
Ya won't spray a 383 to that HP level, and have it live long and the turbo is easier on the engine.

True, boost is boost.
But with a supercharger or a turbo that boost is under your foot ALL the time, with a Nitrous setup you can pick and choose when to lean on the motor.
I have just seen better results around here with the Nitrous motors as far as reliability goes.

day.Probably most of the systems you have seen on street cars are less than a 200 shot.

Re: sts turbo or le3/396?
Thats very true, around here probably 95 percent of them are under 200.
But I do get a kick out of matting the pedal alot... and with the NO I can do it without the extra oomph (and the extra harshness on parts) if I so desire.
Cant do that with SC or turbo.....when you step on the pedal its there whether you want it or not.
Its just been my expeirence that I see alot more NO cars out cruising and having a good time and the SC/turbo guys are broke alot more often.
Maybe they just are not setting the cars up right.
I was against Nitrous for a long time but I have come to the conclusion that for me being able to turn my power booster on or off is the best way to go.

Re: sts turbo or le3/396?
The only car that is his is his 95 and it was a gift. I was looking to buy his LS1 and there are alot of technical difficulties about buying it. It's his uncles. His uncles work at a shop and do ALL of his work for him. He IMs me everyday and asks me how to do the TB bypass and if he can do it himself. Then he asks me about the resistor mods, the air foils, the thermostats, and how much power each will add.
He thinks he is going to get a twin turbo 1200hp daily driver, then he thinks he is going to get a 396 LE3 setup. Then he asks me how much gas mileage each would get. Then he asks how streetable each would be. He can't afford any of them, doesnt have a job, and doesnt know anything about cars. Just ignore him. Search his name and look at some of the posts he has made.
And go 396 LE3 setup becuase NA engines make power different than turbos. Turbos make your engine sound like ****.

Re: sts turbo or le3/396?
I would do it right from the get go. Build a good motor from the bottom up. If you dont understand all the engine theory that makes power, then I would let someone else handle the bottom end build up. The actuall assembly of the top end is where I would save the money.
You can get any run of the mill machine shop to build your 396 for you, but unless you tell them exactly what you want or your goals, then I would spend the extra couple hundered and send it to someone who REALLY knows that they are doing.
Or you could call up a professional builder and pay him for his advise (at least pay them for their time) on all the clearances, parts to buy, deck height, port volumes, cam choice (or custom), port flow, chamber volume, rod ratio, compression ratio, gaskets, quench, ring clearances (1st and second)... then send that info to a machine shop. That is the main difference between a badass engine builder and a machine shop.
I vote stroker + good heads....

Re: sts turbo or le3/396?
if you are going to go with a turbo setup either a 383 or 355 fully forged. On the stock bottom end you won't be able to run much boost for very long til it goes kaboom. rather than go with the sts turbo you're better off with a 100 shot if you are looking to make a lot of power quickly ( on the stock bottom end)
