stuck borla tailpipe/plate
i bought a used borla catback that had the biggest plate in there now, and i installed it. I tried this afternoon to separate the plate side of the tailpipes so i can slide my DMH in there, but the pipes will not separate. does anyone have any tips besides torching it that will help? and the bolts are seized to the flange as well..
any help appreciated

Re: stuck borla tailpipe/plate
what happened after your bolts broke? i can tell this is going to be a treat lol im hoping penetrating lube and torching will free them...
the nuts come off the bolts fine, took the tailpipe hanger off too, and the pipe just hangs there with no give at all around the flange, shaking it or banging it with a rubber mallet only moves the entire system

Re: stuck borla tailpipe/plate
The first Borla I owned had that problem. One of the bolts seized and I broke the head off it trying to get it out. I always coat the bolts in anti-seize now to prevent it from happenning on my current car. It's the same stuff I put on the spark plugs.

my problem is one of the bolts broke off in there, and the thread chaser i was using in another one broke off in there too. I now have one bolt holding that part together. talk about rattling
maybe you can try sliding a flat head inbetween them and prying it apart?

Take it to an exhaust shop and have them try to heat it up to get it off. I had one bolt holding mine together also. I had the system tapped for a nut/bolt set up after that. Worked out great until I sold the exhaust in favor of a hooker with a cut out and picked up 4hp across the band.

looks like a torch is the way to go. was hoping i could get around it, but tried again tonight and it looks like the torch wins this battle. how dangerous is it that the gas tank is in fairly close viscinity? vapors wont randomly combust or something will they?
