stumped badly.....

Replaced icm today. Changed plugs, they are a rusty brown color. Seem too be burning perfect yet gas is getting into my oil. Car lugs chugs and backfires. Burning fuel as it exits the exhaust. Wtf is going on here? Headers are insanely hot. Could a bad pcm cause these problems? What about timing getting retarded?i need advice badly. Motor runs clean and quiet. I do have an exhaust leak right in front of mufflers. It is audible too. What would cause fuel too be burnt in the headers

Re: stumped badly.....

Had a car that did similar things, especially the red hot headers/manifolds, it was a plugged cat.

Re: stumped badly.....

I see that you have a cutout so obviously the cat wouldn't be an issue.

Re: stumped badly.....

My cutout is after the cat. Only place it would fit and give me the clearance I wanted.

Re: stumped badly.....

Could have an injector stuck open. When you turn off the car the fuel pressure would push it out into the cylinder with the stuck injector. Then it would get into your oil that way. You can do the test with your fuel pressure. Attach the gauge, turn the key to on but don't start the car. Record fuel pressure immediately, then check it again after a few minutes to see how much it leaked down. It shouldn't have leaked down much if any at all.

Also it would allow an uncontrolled spray of gas while the car is running. Which could be flooding the car and causing it to run bad as well.

Good Luck

Re: stumped badly.....

May I suggest that you try to keep your issues in one thread? You post two new topics a day, which can make it difficult for other people to keep track of your problems.

Re: stumped badly.....

Ill check the injectors. I can't understand what would cause them too stick as the fp ff fueltank and injecyors are all new. Im gonna check the fpr and schrader valve tomorrow. Im wondering if my exhaust leak in the back is causing false knock and retarding timing badly. Gonna replace the 02 sensors tomorrow also.im just gonna replace the fpr s-valve and pcv valve because everything else is brand new. When i resolved the wire issue i stopped using thevthread. The icm isssue the same. Now obviously there's a fuel issue. Ill just post in the fuel ignition section no biggie sorry too make it difficult . As of now this is my only issue with the car. Im closing in on 20k in this car and am sick of not being able too enjoy it. Im not a mechanic by no means but im running low on funds and want too be done with this

Re: stumped badly.....

If none of the plugs looked black when you are having the problem, it's not occurring while the engine is running. It would be going into the oil while the engine is at rest.

I would pull the plugs and check them. While they are out, have someone crank it over to see if fuel comes out any cylinders. Obviously if any of the plugs are black or fuel shoots out any cylinders, you need to focus on the injectors for those cylinders.

If the FPR is bad, it usually floods the cylinders on that side of the engine toward the rear. I believe 6 or 8. Can't remember.

A couple of last points. Obviously you don't want to continue running it if it's souping a cylinder. Wall scratches and ring wear would be the result

If you are using either a Aeromotive regulator or Accel fuel injectors. They are both suspect. They need to be checked right away.

Aero had a bad problem with diaphragms and Accel had a bad pintle issue.

Re: stumped badly.....

Brand new lucas 42# injectors. I've changed the oil 5 times since my issues started. It runs like crap when im driving it. Maybe i have some faulty injectors or something is hanging them up. Im gonna run a can of injector cleaner through the intake

Re: stumped badly.....

Is it tuned for the 42lb injectors?
The red exhaust is high egt's from the fuel burning in the exhaust. If you have fuel in the oil then you need to stop drivingthe car untill you fix be issue.

Injector cleaner does not go through the injectors if you put it in the intake. It might, I say might, clean the valves.

Putting the type at the auto parts stores in the tank won't fix a problem. It might keep you from developing a problem if used regularly but that's it.
