I think Javier ran into this same problem. Not sure what he did. I think he bought one that actually worked. PM him (moderator of this forum).

When I did mine, I used a standard valve spring height mic (Pro Tools, I think) but I had to deduct 0.148 in. from all my readings to correct for the amount the beehive retainer sits below the top of the tool. (I measured the recess in the top of the tool with a depth mic to determine the 0.148 in.)

Yes that one will work. As said above you will need to measure the recess at the top and subtract that from the reading to get actual. The Comp "beehive" mic will not work on the LT1 beehive retainers because the valvestem is larger and the retainer won't fit into the gauge. I reamed mine out to be able to use it but save yourself the money and by a standard spring mic.

So you have the heads off the engine? Anyway, the cost of having a speed shop do the work will probably run you more than the price of the mic, and you won't know if its done right.

I just put a shim on top of the mic and deducted the shim height from my readings. Easy to do and very accurate without having a mic for beehives and standard GM springs.
