Surprise when i took the opti offf today.
The 3 bolts that hold the gear on the camshaft were all loose. And 1 of them was broke off in the cam. Luckly with a little push with a drill bit knocked it loose and it can right out.
I don't know how these bolts came loose or why. Either way with play there im sure that helped wear my opti out.
If you shake the opti you can here parts of the roter flop around haha, I think the roter came apart.
So im gong to go to dealer tommorw to pick up new bolts for the cam gear.

Found the same problem on a car I was working on last summer. Had 66k on it came in for a tune, but sounded like it was knocking. Brought it back a couple weeks later to trouble shoot the prob and we both decided on pulling the engine. Once it was out we found the knocking problem. All 3 bolts backed out and was scraping against the opti, and the cam gear was bouncing back and forth.

No one seems to be saying anything really about it.

The same thing happened on my motor the first time i rebuilt it. The bolts came loose and the cam walked back and rubbed on the rear freeze plug sending lots of metal into the motor. The second time i rebuilt it i think i put lock tight on the cam bolts and i modified one of those cam bolt retaining plates to fit the cam. Its not going anywhere this time.
