swapped out 2.73 for 3.42
hi guys
looking for some input here.
everthing is spaced out correctly, just got the car back and I here a little winding noise, nothing really loud. is this natural for the gear that i had installed? "3.42"
i was used to the quiet 2.73 stock.
will this wind go away after the rear end is broken in?
or is the nature of the gears when you go taller?
thanks

Depends on how loud it is. I noticed what sounded like running water in the background over 40 mph, and thats about it.
If its really loud, like its deafening, then something's wrong with the install.
Either my whine went away, or I just don't notice it anymore, and I've had the 3.73's for almost 2 years now.

Depends on the brand of the gear and the install. GM's are generally considered to be the quietest but even those can be noisy depending on the install and/or proper break in.
FWIW, I have Strange 3.73's and there's a bit of noise here and there. Nothing you can hear outside of the car though.

I have Strange 3.42s, and the Strange support guy told me that they are designed for strength, and when cutting the gears for strength you have to give a little in the "quietness" dept.
My gears are installed and there is just a little bit of audible whine.

How does it feel?
How's "like a different car" sound?
I went from a 70 something degree July night running 14.299...
to a 70 something (almost 80) degree November day running 14.016 bouncing off the limiter on the 2-3 WOT upshift.
The gears were the ONLY change...
