I don't know about the tag, however I can tell you how to differentiate between 93 and 94-97 and an LS1 transmission.
The 93 transmissions do not come with a skip shift solenoid. The boss is there, however it is not machined and there is no solenoid. 94-97's will have this.

94-97 Trans
This is a 94-97. The solenoid is located on the top of the driver's side directly below that flat steel inspection plate. The early one will have the boss, but no solenoid.
The picture above that has none.
The Ls1's are similar to the 94-97's, the input shaft is a little longer and there are provisions around the input shaft to mount the throwout bearing (LS1 does not use a clutch fork). The older LT1 cars have a spot at the 7:30 position (when standing behind the transmission) to mount the fulcrum for the clutch fork.
The gear ratios for 94-2002 are the same, the 93 had two possible combinations. Hopefully someone else will pipe up with that info.
