Re: Tap size for head bolts
7/16-14 and use a thread chaser and not a tap. A chaser will not remove threads.

So using a tap will tear up the threads? I've heard that you can use a cleaned up old head bolt to clean the threads, is this true?

A tap will try to remove material. A chaser will not. A bolt will not clean threads as there are no flutes to allow the debris to be collected.
