Exclamation Temp gauge issues

My 93 6 speed all stock camaro has me worried when Im driving around and the temperature gauge goes all the way up to the line before the red area; that's when the fans turn on and cool it a little bit, is that normal? If not, what should i do?

Re: Temp gauge issues

The first fan should turn on at 226*F, the second fan at 235*F. Both those temperatures are near the 3/4 mark, not in the red. The gauge reads a sensor in the drivers side head. The ECM (which controls the fans) reads the temperature with a sensor in the water pump housing. Possibly one of those sensors is defective.

Does this happen only when you are driving at higher speeds? If so, is the air dam intact under the front bumper? If its missing, the temp will generally be OK at idle, but will climb steadilly the faster you drive.

Re: Temp gauge issues

Never liked how hot mine got when I had it. Even though it was at the correct temps, I installed this:

You might need to change the coolant.(And the thermostat).
